1 killed, 2 injured in Tuesday night crash in Jefferson County

One person was killed and two others injured in a two-vehicle accident on the Arkansas River bridge on U.S. Highway 63 in Jefferson County Tuesday night.

According to a report from the Arkansas State Police 44-year-old LaRoderick Scott of Shreveport, Louisiana was driving southbound on U.S. Highway 63 on the river bridge in an unknown SUV when he crossed the center line striking a 2020 Buick driven by 59-year-old Lasha Carter of Stuttgart at 10:54 p.m. Carter was driving northbound at the time of the accident.

According to the report the SUV Scott was driving became engulfed in flames after impact with the passenger trapped inside. The passenger, listed as Jane Doe in the report, died as a result of the accident and fire.

Both Scott and Carter were injured in the crash and were transported to Jefferson Regional Hospital, according to the report. The deceased victim will be sent to the crime lab for identification.

The weather was clear and roads were dry at the time of the crash.

159 people have died on Arkansas highways in 2024 to date.
